Unfucked my house today using the UFYH Weekend Challenges.  I gave it 3 good hours with a few breaks (20/10s don’t seem to work for me - I do the 20 (or 30, or 40) and then take a break and don’t go back again. Slaxxor)  for various little mini chore-things and a conference call or two.

That said, the house looks great now.  DangerLad helped too, did the vacuuming (my #1 MOST HATED CHORE), unloaded/loaded the dishwasher and cleaned the kitchen, cleaned the upstairs bathroom and bathed the dog.  I still have a couple of tasks to complete, but I’m pretty pleased with how the house looks at the moment.  Aaah.

Flipped stash yarn bins on Flickr.
This is a pic of my closet in my yarn studio - I flipped my stash so that I could be looking at new and fresh things and spark off my brain juices, and organized my stash at the same time. WEE!

Tree shaped bookshelf that DangerLad’s brother made. For almost a year our cookbooks have been sitting in a bin on the kitchen (breakfast nook) floor, in disarray. We built this as a cat-friendly tree, but my 13 year old cat has no real interest in climbing higher than the couch, so now they are our cookbook shelves. We’ll probably “festive” them up a bit as Giftmas draws nigh, but for now, they will stay as they are.
For all you marvelous people who have asked (yeah, like both of you), the pattern is here

Pics later. A downstairs unfuckening

Unfucked my living and bedroom, put away clean clothes, put fresh linens on the bed and cleaned the bathroom. Upstairs still needs work, but after 3 hours’ worth of 20/10s, I think I’m done for tonight.

Work smarter, not harder tip of the day: sweep your floor just before the end of your 20/10, and take your 10 before the dustpan step. The 10 minutes will give the stirred-up dust time to settle back down to the floor and you’ll get more of it in your dustpan, which must be counted as A Good Thing.

Unfucked my desk today.  Got all my filing filed, took care of my old hangout receipts, my tax return stuff, my investments stuff, got it all put away and even figured out some of the wire problem (the problem is that I have a kabillion cables hanging out and it annoys me)  finished room looks much better!

It’s amazing how a little clutter in a little room just looks like a MESS!  I was going to just do the 10-minute unfuckyourhabitat challenge, but it’s turned into rather a 45/15!  I got tidying, and tidying some more, then I tidied the closet and put away yarn and projects that have been relegated to the PHD pile - (“Projects half-done”, for the non Knitmore Girls listeners), although being the fan of sci-fi that I am, I should probably keep it as UFO (UnFinished Objects… Oh well, that’s for another day, and 10 minutes turned into 45!  Feeling good though, now.  Listened to music and bebopped my way through getting it tidied up.

So anyway, I got stuff put away, filed away, shelved away, cabinet-ed away, and it’s looking pretty great now, a nice place to go get inspired, which was its purpose.  The carpet needs a vacuuming, but at least I can see the floor to vacuum it! :)

As an aside, I note that my arty studio kind of needs some art on the walls!  #note to self.

As another aside, I need a fun chair to put on my upstairs landing, and maybe a funky lamp, to turn it into a little knitting nook all my own. Gonna have to do some shopping. #And so that goes on the list.

Welllllll….

Okay. Yes. I’ll admit it.  My house surfaces have been getting steadily more crapped-up in the last couple of months.  My money-house has been in chaos and panic and as a result my actual house manifested as a depressing clutterfest with some trash, some filing and lots, lots, LOTS of books and magazines all over the place, not to mention myriad craft “thingies” and “bobbers” that all belong in my yarn studio (which also needs some tidying work, but that’s for tomorrow.)

Anyway, I beat DangerLad home from work today, and the rule is that whomever arrives home first has to walk the dog (more for the dog’s needs than our own fitness - poor thing’s gotta go by the time one of us gets home!) so it was on me to walk the dog and get the pets fed.  Not only did I walk myself and the dog for a mile around the neighborhood instead of the obligatory walk to the “doggy area” at the back of the property and back for only her necessaries, (I’m not the world’s fittest person - a mile is an achievement for me) and get them all fed and cared-for, I felt pretty energetic, so I unwittingly did a 45/15.  Unwittingly because I didn’t know about UnfuckYourHabitat before I came upstairs for 15 minutes of computer time before I go downstairs and attack the floordrobe, at least enough to have unwrinkled clothes to wear to work tomorrow.  I’ve been on ChoreWars for nearly a year now and that’s been instrumental in getting my household cleaned up and kept cleaned up, but I live on Tumblr, not Chorewars (although I like chorewars - it’s fun and gives you XP for otherwise thankless tasks).  My house is generally clean, but not always tidy, and UFYH has been inspiring me to get all my rooms back into clean, happy condition and to keep them that way, instead of accumulating crap downstairs because I’m tired and I doan wanna.

Thanks for the booster!

Anyway, for tomorrow:

DangerLad is taking out the trash and sweeping the downstairs

He and I will be facing The Dishes of Kazahd-Dun (My dishwasher ran tonight and I’ll need to unload, reload and run again to get the dishes from the weekend out of the sink)

The Floordrobe, fur realz.  Laundry is my absolute least favorite chore.  I HATE it.  But I have to have nice, clean, preferably unwrinkled clothes to wear to work.  So one does what one must. Even though I HATE it. (HAAAATE it.)

By/on the weekend:

My current messy desk from hell, including the crap I brought from downstairs that needs filing and/or shredding, and figuring out what to do about all the cables everywhere.

Both bathrooms need a once-over, and the downstairs one could probably use a pretty major one.  The upstairs one is probably OK because we don’t really use it much, but it probably needs a dusting, a sweeping and a surf around the commode.

Fresh sheets on the bed (these get changed about once a week, sometimes every 2 weeks, don’t go thinking we’re funky folk.  It didn’t happen last weekend because on the allocated day, Saturday, I was in bed all day with a migraine. Love that. Not.)

I’m abysmal about taking pictures, but I’ll try to remember to snap a shot of at least the ‘after’.  I’m not so dedicated to before/after pics that I’m willing to re-mess my house just for your benefit.  :-D

UTD Grad. Legal Assistant, knitter, spinner, reader. This is the place where my tumblrs tumble. Will mostly be pics of knitting, probably punctuated by pictures of my cat and other randomness that I decide needs to be posted on the internet, and maybe also pictures of food. Because food is awesome. Please visit my FitBlr at fitnessblargh.tumblr.com
