Starting Wednesday, millions of American women will no longer pay for birth control pills, Pap smears or mammograms — not even a co-pay. Women also have the right to free breast-feeding support, supplies for pregnancy-related diabetes, also known as gestational diabetes, and even screening for domestic violence.

Oh god yeah, definitely. Same with the smears and the Pill for girls who are irregular

WHY?!! Why should a sexually active woman have to pay for birth control?  “I’m sexually active and don’t want to become pregnant” is just as valid a reason as, “I have an irregular period/endometriosis/insert other medical reason here”.  No copay for one, no copay for all.  It’s called EQUALITY.  That means that all women are equal to all other women.

Besides, that sexually active woman is probably also buying condoms, which you have to pay for, if memory serves. (It does.) Which means that, in a heterosexual relationship she is bearing the cost of sexual responsibility with her (let’s assume her partner is male, for the moment*) partner equally, as opposed to paying more every month than he does to prevent conception simply by virtue of being a woman who doesn’t want to conceive, and then being expected also to chip in for condoms and/or other forms of protection (Because BC pills don’t protect or prevent STDs or STIs).  Access to birth control is a major leap, and you already want to exclude a percentage of the population that you have made a judgment about. Real nice.  

*I’m all about loving on the non-cis, non-binary, non-heteronormative(?) relationships and folks out there, but I’m ignorant about the dynamics in those relationships or how birth control and contraception are discussed or negotiated inside of those relationships.  Please know that if you’re out there and non-cis or non-binary (there’s such a big vocabulary) and I leave you out, it’s not because I don’t adore you, it’s because I’m ignorant.  But I’m trying not to be! <3
