I told my dude I want to move away to somewhere cold. I thought he wouldn’t take the news well. Instead, he said, “OK, let’s do it. Where do you want to go?” So we’re looking at trip options to visit some cities that might be prospects. We want to go visit them in cold months so we get the experience of winter and what winter would be like living in a state with actual cold winter. We’re looking at visiting Minneapolis, MN in February 2013.
Other city prospects we’re reviewing are Chicago, IL, Indianapolis, IN, and Denver, CO (we have friends living in Denver). Are there other cities (must be a large city) that we should consider?
Our criteria are that it must be a city, preferably with good public transit, have cold winters and a job market for paraprofessionals (legal assistants/legal secretaries, paralegals) is important, too. I would prefer good in-city housing, but if suburbs and bedroom communities is all that’s available, that’s OK too, as long as there are rentals to be had. I know the housing costs are going to be more expensive up north because of the higher heating costs, but I’m OK with that.

You’re probably going to find a lot of that in New England, too, and there’re a lot of cities to choose from there.
